Testing Update

Due to delays from the district, Baseline Curriculum Guide Assessments have had to be pushed back.

Science CGA Testing has been moved to Wednesday, August 27, 2014.

Reading CGA Testing will moved to Wednesday and Thursday, September 3-4, 2014.

Curriculum Guide Assessments are used to determine the following:

  • How is the student improving in their knowledge of the main standards being taught.
  • Are teachers teaching the standards in the curriculum guide.  If so how effective was their instruction.
  • The CGA's allow teachers to strategize what standards need to be taught and emphasized.

CGA Tests do not reflect on the students grades or report card.  CGA Tests contain material that will be taught in 3rd grade.  Consequently, the students may find they have difficulty in answering the questions.  The baseline test establishes a baseline of what the student can do at the beginning of the school year.

We have completed the Math CGA's already, and you may have had feedback from your child that the test was very difficult and frustrating.  As your child learns more third grade material, their CGA scores will go up.

If you have any specific concerns or questions about the beginning of the year diagnostic testing, please e-mail me at nixp@duvalschols.org.

WELCOME BACK!!!

Welcome to all of my incoming third grade students.  I am really looking forward to getting to know you over the next few weeks as we "rock the surf to success".

Here are some things you need to know for the first day of school...

  • You may come directly to the classroom (Room 74) as you arrive on campus on Monday morning.  Starting on Tuesday you will report to the Multi-Purpose room.  Parents may walk students to the room Monday as well.
  • Be prepared to tell Mr. Nix how you will be going home in the afternoon (extended day, car-riders, parent pick-up, walk or bike)
  • Snack time: 10:00 AM (You may bring a morning snack if you wish)
  • We will switch classes on the first day.  My homeroom will go to Mrs. Allison's class at 11:45 AM
  • Lunch time: 12:15 PM-12:45 PM
  • Dismissal for third grade begins at 2:50 PM.  We usually arrive at parent pick-up by 2:55 PM
  • Remember if you are a bike rider you MUST wear a helmet.
